In Argentina, education is compulsory between the ages of 5 and 18. The literacy rate reaches 97% of the population (2004), being one of the highest in Latin America. |

| At all levels of education, there are public and private educational institutions with the State guaranteeing free education in all of them except for the postgraduate university. |

| The university system consists of 38 public and 43 private universities. Additional to that wide offer, there are more than 20 institutions offering higher education. |

Over a total of 40 million, 12 million (30%) receive formal instruction:
- Nearly 10 million people (between 3 and 18 years) in kindergartens, primary and secondary schools;
- Almost 500 thousand people in non-university colleges;
- About 1.5 million students (more than 30% of young people between 18 and 24) in universities;
- The Argentine spend an average of 15 years in school / university (Brazil 14, Chile 14, Mexico 13, Colombia 12 years);
- Only in Buenos Aires there are more than 240,000 students in careers in computer science, engineering and business administration / economics
